About the leather I use:
Raw leather hides are first sent to the tannery located in the hills of Tuscany, Italy. Before the hides can be dyed, damaged, unusable, and excess material are removed. The hides are then cleaned, shaved, and trimmed before tanning.
The hides are dyed using tree barks and vegetable tannins that are hundreds of years old. The trimming and dying process can take multiple days, or even many months before the final hide is ready for crafting.
While all the hides I use for the Traditional and Craftsman options come from Italy and are among the highest quality available, upgrading to the Legacy option will open your imagination to an enormous selection of leathers from around the world - shark, lizard, buffalo, shell Cordovan, and so much more!
ABOUT ME
In the fall of 2022, I decided I was going to make a leather purse and matching keychain as a Christmas gift. I had no clue how to make it, where to get leather, or the tools I would need. I immersed myself in videos and articles, and I learned as much as I possibly could by studying the best crafters and high-end luxury brands. In the end, I felt embarrassed looking at my “creation” despite the gifts being much-appreciated. I learned and improved more and more until I was ready to start my own leather crafting business.
Today, Drumm’s Leathercraft tries to defy the typical trends in leatherwork. Using centuries-old techniques - joined with incredible, beautiful leathers from around the world - Drumm’s Leathercraft combines old and new to create bespoke pieces that stand the test of time.
